More than 900,000 homeowners received foreclosure filings in 3rd quarterThe third quarter was not a good one for homeowners trying to keep their homes.
A total of 937,840 homes were headed for default or auction or were repossessed by banks, according to RealtyTrac, a 23% increase from the same quarter last year. One out of every 136 U.S. households received a filing, the highest quarterly rate since records began in January 2005. The number of foreclosures was up 5% from the second quarter of this year.
"They were the worst three months of all time," said Rick Sharga, a spokesman for RealtyTrac.
